GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - A woman is facing a weapon charge in Georgetown County because deputies say she tried to bring a gun into a school.
Tanesha Anissa Addison Bennett, 39, of Pawleys Island, is charged with having a weapon on school property.
Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jason Lesley says Bennett attempted to enter Waccamaw High School but had a handgun in a fanny pack, which set off a security alarm.
The school resource officer detained her and a school safety monitor seized the gun before it entered the building.
She reportedly told deputies that she had forgotten it was in her pack.
“This is a clear example of the process working as it should. The security system, school staff and our deputies did their part to ensure a safe environment,” Sheriff Carter
