For Mike Laframboise, the Power of Hope Golf Tournament isn’t just a game that he has helped organize for five years. For him, it’s an event that is deeply personal.

Laframboise was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2017 and in 2019 underwent surgery at KHSC.

Doctors used the da Vinci surgical robot, a technology that was made possible in Kingston thanks for the support of a generous donor.

The technology uses small incisions, compared to traditional surgery, which leads to a shorter hospital stay and a faster recovery.

“That surgery changed my life,” Laframboise said. “I wanted to give back, not just with a donation, but by doing something bigger for others facing prostate cancer. That’s how Power of Hope was born.”
