ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The very first new residential building in the Centennial Yards project is officially open.

On Thursday, Centennial Yards held a “friends and family” ribbon cutting at the Mitchell Apartments on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW to mark the milestone.

A new apartment building with 300 units bringing people to downtown Atlanta means more customers for businesses like Friedman’s Shoe Store on Mitchell Street SW.

“So excited to see downtown flourishing,” said Brett Teilhaber, the president of Friedman’s.

Teilhaber grew up in his family business that has been downtown on Mitchell Street since 1929, through downtown Atlanta’s hey day and beyond.
