A Maryland man who was impersonating a police officer and driving a fake police cruiser was arrested Thursday, police said.
Alejandro Ceferino Zunca, 67, of Montgomery Village, was driving a Ford van marked with “Police” and “Policía” that had red and blue lights around 9:45 p.m. Friday. He was spotted by a Montgomery County Department of Police officer who did not recognize the typical police markings on the van.
Zunca claimed he was a current police officer when questioned by the officer. He later changed his story, saying he used to be in law enforcement but had no documentation proving he was a police officer, Montgomery County police officials said.
When he was arrested, Zunca had a fake badge and holster containing a replica black pistol. Police also found:
