TACOMA, Wash. – Pierce County prosecutors are asking a judge to reconsider the sentence given to former Seattle SuperSonics star Shawn Kemp for a 2023 shooting at the Tacoma Mall.
Kemp faced charges of second-degree assault and was sentenced to 30 days of home detention and community service.
The charge originated from the incident where Kemp claimed he tracked down individuals who had stolen from him. During his sentencing in August, Kemp stated, "I shot in self defense," but the state believes he intended to harm the thieves.
A hearing to reconsider his sentence is scheduled for September 9.
