CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Judge Eileen A. Olds became the first African American judge and woman judge in the city of Chesapeake, and went on to be elected president of the American Judges Association, still the only Virginian to ever hold the title.
It's strides like these Chesapeake leaders say make honoring her come easy, as Olds — her legacy ever-present in the city — was honored during the dedication Thursday of the Judge A. Eileen Olds Courtyard Park, located on carefully manicured grounds directly behind City Hall.
"Beautiful weather, great people attending, and obviously, Judge Olds," Chesapeake Mayor Rick West said.
In 2021, plans to name a Juvenile Court after Judge Olds fell through, but Chesapeake City Council later voted unanimously to rename the City's Courtyard Square Park
