A brave four-month-old baby from Plymouth has undergone surgery as her family prepares for a community event this weekend to raise more funds for her medical care.
Macey-Mai was born on May 7 with a Giant Congenital Melanocytic Nevus covering 100% of her back from her neck down, around the sides of her stomach, on the top of her head, on her bum and satellite ones all over her body. Her mum, Katelyn Clarke, explained that GCMNs have an “elevated risk of developing into a malignant melanoma” - a type of skin cancer - if left untreated.
The family were unable to get treatment on the NHS , which Katelyn said would only act once the Nevus becomes malignant - so they sought private care in order for Macey-Mai to get surgery to remove the GCMN.
