Canada lost 66,000 jobs in August, most of which were part-time employment. As a result, the jobless rate nationally jumped to 7.1 per cent from 6.9.
Newfoundland and Labrador also saw increase in the jobless rate – to 10.7 per cent from 10.5. The largest employment declines were in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario.
Average hourly wages among employees increased 3.2 per cent to $36.31 on a year-over-year basis in August, following growth of 3.3% in July.
