LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - About two weeks after Governor Jim Pillen announced the McCook Work Ethic Camp would be repurposed to hold people detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Nebraska State Senators are learning more about the decision and next steps.

Members of the executive branch met with the Legislature’s Judiciary Committee Thursday, Omaha Senators Wendy DeBoer and Victor Rountree spoke with reporters after with details.

The senators said it was the state of Nebraska that reached out to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) offering up the facility, in response to a request from President Donald Trump for more space to hold detainees.
