Deputy Mayor Adolfo Carrión Jr. on Friday defended a sweeping plan to rezone parts of Long Island City, saying it is a step needed to confront New York City’s deepening housing crisis.
The proposal, approved by the City Planning Commission earlier this week, would allow for the construction of nearly 15,000 apartments, about 3 million square feet of commercial space and around 300,000 square feet of community space along the Queens waterfront.
