Ottawa police seek suspect in credit and debit card scam

Ottawa police are seeking assistance to identify a person “involved in a fraud investigation.” Article content

On Aug. 21, between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., a scammer phoned the victim claiming to be a financial institution that caught suspicious activities in the victim’s bank accounts. Article content Article content

The scammer instructed the victim to cut up his debit and credit cards and provide them in an envelope to a courier who would pick up the cut-up cards at the victim’s residence.

The victim stayed on the phone with the suspect until the “courier” picked up the cut-up cards around 7 p.m. The call ended around 8 p.m
