This week, people reported receiving texts from a sender posing as Manitoba Justice, claiming recipients owed payment for fines such as speeding tickets and traffic violations. The province confirmed Manitoba Justice does not use text messages to request payments or send official notices.

Other reports involved texts about the Homeowners Affordability Tax Credit (HATC), urging recipients to click a link to finalize their claim. Manitoba Finance stated it does not process tax credits or benefits through text message.
