DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — RESEARCHERS AT NYU TANDON in Downtown Brooklyn have pioneered a fabrication method that could accelerate quantum computing , Scienmag reports. Published in “Applied Physics Letters,” the study shows low-energy ion beam etching can precisely pattern superconducting niobium resonators, reducing defects compared to standard chemical methods. Devices fabricated in NYU’s Nanofab and tested at the Air Force Research Lab matched the best conventional results.

The advance opens the door to exploring unconventional superconductors once deemed impractical, potentially enabling more reliable, scalable quantum processors, according to Scienmag.
