CLEVELAND — A man who had been on the run for more than a decade on charges involving child sex crimes in Summit County and Florida was arrested Friday in New Orleans, federal authorities said.

The U.S. Marshals Service said Shawn Brooks, 37, was taken into custody after barricading himself inside a home in the 800 block of 3rd Street. Investigators said Brooks tried to evade capture by crawling into a neighbor’s attic before he was found and arrested.

Brooks had been wanted since 2013, when the Broward County Sheriff’s Office in Florida issued a warrant for his arrest on 15 counts of sexually related offenses involving minors.
