Firefighters are battling a significant blaze at an industrial building in Witham, Essex. The fire erupted shortly after 4:30pm near a train track, prompting a swift response from multiple fire crews. The Essex Fire & Rescue Service confirmed that the incident is taking place at a unit located in Eastways.

Images from the scene depict bright orange flames engulfing the structure, accompanied by thick plumes of black smoke rising into the sky. As of 8:12pm, the fire is expected to continue burning into the evening, with firefighters working diligently to contain it.

A spokesperson for Essex County Fire & Rescue Service stated, "This is a fire in an industrial building measuring 80 metres by 50 metres. Our firefighters have surrounded the fire and we are being supported at the scene by UK Power Networks. Eastways is closed due to the presence of multiple crews and equipment."

Residents in the vicinity have been advised to keep their windows and doors closed to avoid smoke inhalation. The fire service reiterated this warning, stating, "There is a lot of smoke so please do keep windows and doors closed if you are nearby."
