PORTALES, N.M. (KFDA) - A judge denied a plea deal for two former daycare workers in Portales who left two children alone in a hot car in 2017, resulting in the death of a girl.

The Eastern New Mexico News reports that a district judge rejected a plea deal submitted for Mary and Sandi Taylor.

The news outlet states the judge said parts of the case “are to be determined by the court and not by the parties involved in the proposed plea deal.”

According to the Eastern New Mexico News, Ninth Judicial District Attorney Quentin Ray says attorneys involved will continue to work on a plea agreement. Jury selection for a trial is set for Sept. 29.
