FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Firefighters continue work to contain the Garnet Fire since it first started on Aug. 24; the fire's size is now starting to rival entire cities.

As of the latest update on Friday morning, the Garnet Fire has burned 33,388 acres and is 14% contained.

The acres burned remain far below the 309,000 acres burned during the Creek Fire in 2020, but the size of the Garnet Fire is considerable: • 250,000 football fields: If a football field is approximately 1.32 acres, that means the Garnet Fire covers over 250,000 football fields. • 40 of New York's Central Park: Central Park is 843 acres, meaning almost 40 Central Parks fit in the acreage burned by the Garnet Fire. • Almost two cities of Clovis: the City of Clovis almost fits inside the acreage burned b
