FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The Garnet Fire burning in the Sierra National Forest in Fresno County has burned 33,726 acres, and continues to grow as containment sits at 14%.
It's one of many burning around California that have forced crews from not only around the region, but the state, and even around the country, to help out.
The U.S. Forest Service says that because the fire is burning on federal land, it allows them to call in backup from as far as New York and Florida.
"As far as federal incidents, incidents that are happening on federal land, this is the number one priority in the state," said U.S. Forest Service Spokesperson Adrienne Freeman.
