PORTLAND, Maine — Fall has arrived to Maine. The sun is setting earlier, the dew points are low, and pumpkin spice is back at Starbucks and Dunkin. That means it is time to take a look back at the weather this summer in Maine.
Some of you may be stopping me: "Dana, it isn't fall yet! That isn't until Sept. 21!" You would be, at least partially, correct.
Astronomical fall starts Sept. 21, and astronomical seasons follow the relation of the earth to the sun. Meteorological seasons follow the annual temperature cycle and start on the first of the month every three months.
Fun fact: Meteorological seasons work best in Maine for the summer and fall. Winter gets complicated, because meteorological winter ends with the end of February. But, as we know, March is a winter month in Maine.
