TRENTON, Maine — After ending the summer with record-breaking attendance in July, Acadia National Park continues to be one of Maine’s most visited destinations. Now, a brand-new $26 million visitor center just off Mount Desert Island is open to help welcome that increasing demand.
The Acadia Gateway Center, located just off Mount Desert Island in Trenton, is designed to give visitors a smoother, more informed start to their park experience.
"This is the one-stop shop for people to have a great experience," Kevin Schneider, superintendent of Acadia National Park, said.
For more than 20 years, park officials and local partners have collaborated to create an 11,000 square foot facility that guides visitors through a park with multiple entrances.
