CAMBRIDGE, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Investigators are looking into what caused a small plane to crash in Minnesota.

The pilot was killed in the accident.

This happened near the municipal airport in Cambridge, about 50 miles north of Minneapolis, around 11:25 a.m. Thursday morning.

Authorities say no one else was on board the plane.

The National Transportation Safety Board confirmed that the plane was a single-engine Beech K-35.

Flight radar shows the aircraft took off from Blaine, intending to land in Cambridge, which is about 30 miles apart.

Images from our NBC-affiliate, Kare 11, show that the fuselage was severely damaged in the crash, and the engine appears to have caught fire.

A records search indicates that the owner of the Beech is a 41-year-old man from Shoreview.
