PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A hiker was flown to safety after she became overheated on a popular mountain trail in east Phoenix.

Around 10:15 a.m., technical rescue teams from the Phoenix Fire Department responded to the Echo Canyon Trailhead at Camelback Mountain for reports of a hiker in distress. Crews made their way up the trail and found the woman about three-quarters of the way to the top of the mountain.

She told first responders that she began her hike at 5 a.m., and that she later became dizzy and couldn’t make her way back down. A Phoenix police helicopter was called in to assist and flew the woman to the base of the mountain, where an ambulance was waiting.

She was checked by paramedics at the trailhead, but did not need further medical treatment.
