The case of a 20-year-old woman charged with killing a man found in a torched home over the long weekend brings the Edmonton’s homicide total to 20 this year.

The case was one of four homicides investigators were probing after three other long-weekend suspicious deaths in the city, two of which have been confirmed and have resulted in charges, and one that has been ruled non-criminal.

In an email with Postmedia on Thursday, EPS said 19 homicides have been confirmed so far this year, but EPS doesn’t include officer-involved fatal shootings — a 36-year-old man was fatally shot by police in April .

The homicide tally is still below that of last year, when Edmonton recorded 24 by this point in the year.
