A thug with a 'murder kit' tried to kill his wife in a 'brutal and ferocious attack'. Muhammad Khan was collecting belongings from the Rochdale home he previously shared with his estranged partner when he lunged at her.

The 53-year-old punched her before slashing at her neck with a Stanley knife. Khan strangled the woman, stabbed her multiple times, hit her with a hammer and throttled her with an exercise resistance band.

He took her phone and smart watch and put his hand over her nose and mouth, Minshull Street Crown Court heard. The violence finally came to an end when the woman's worried family arrived at the house.
