A question of how easy it should be to keep chickens in Prince’s Lakes divided the plan commission on Thursday.

The commission split with a vote of 4-3 to forward an ordinance that would allow residents to apply for a permit to keep backyard chickens instead of asking the town council for a variance at their Thursday meeting. The town council may consider the ordinance later this month.

Commission members Kevin Aders, Jeremy Nelson, Ted Funk and Layman Boyd voted to give a favorable recommendation to the town council. However, members Kevin Harrison, Ben Staab and Charlie Bourne voted against giving a favorable recommendation.
