The South Carolina Department of Public Health (SCDPH) has confirmed that a raccoon found near Tee Pee and Outlaw trails in Elgin has tested positive for rabies.
According to the SCDPH, one person was potentially exposed and has been referred to their health care provider. Two dogs were also exposed and will be quarantined as required by the S.C. Rabies Control Act.
The raccoon, which was submitted to the SCDPH's laboratory for testing, was confirmed to have rabies on Thursday.
