AUSTIN, Texas — Texans will soon be able to sue anyone who provides, manufactures or mails abortion pills to or from the state.

The Legislature passed House Bill 7 in the closing days of the second special session, and it is now headed for Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s desk.

State Rep. Donna Howard, D-District 48, says HB 7 will lead to more deaths in Texas.

“There’s no question that we’re going to see more women dying, especially those that don’t have access to care,” Howard said on Inside Texas Politics .

Sometimes called the “bounty hunter” abortion pill ban, if a plaintiff is successful, they’re eligible for at least $100,000 in damages. If that person isn’t related to the fetus, they’re only eligible for 10%. The rest of the money has to go to a charity they choose.
