While city public school students returned to the classroom Thursday, students at KIPP NYC public charter schools have been back in classroom since last week.

KIPP NYC operates 18 schools in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Manhattan, serving more than 10,000 students.

This year, the school system is celebrating its 30th anniversary with new leadership.

Leslie-Bernard Joseph, incoming CEO of KIPP NYC Public Charter Schools, joined "The Rush Hour" Friday to talk about the new school year and his new role.
