In Fortville, one youth league is taking bold steps to protect young athletes on the field.

Scary moment that sparked change

For Leah Flees, one moment during her son's football game last season will never be forgotten.

“He immediately was down, and he was just kind of lying there on the field, and it took him a minute to get up. So I ran down the field,” she said. "It was scary."

Her son Calvin was just 9 years old at the time when he suffered a concussion after a hard hit during a game.
