MESA, Ariz. — The man who live-streamed himself attacking a Department of Child Safety worker in Mesa last year has been sentenced to 17 and a half years in prison.

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced that DeAndre Johnson— who was convicted by a jury in July of disorderly conduct, unlawful flight, and attempted first-degree murder —will serve prison time for an attack reported on Nov. 5, 2024, in a DCS office located in the East Valley.

On the day of the incident, Johnson streamed a video of himself showing up for an appointment with a case worker to discuss a case involving his children. He spoke with the DCS employee for about an hour, and as the meeting was ending, Johnson grabbed the employee and put him in a chokehold.
