SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- The Syracuse Mets announced on Friday, September 5, that they would be adjusting the next stage of the "Re-Name the Team Community Challenge."
In a release on their website, they said the team received over 5,100 name suggestions from fans. As a result of the overwhelming amount of submissions, the club has decided to shift its timeline in order to go through the wide range entries to select from, as well as trademark and develop new brand and identity that reflects the heart of Central New York.
Instead of public voting, which would require a more expedited process due to trademarking requirements, the club will work with community focus groups over the upcoming months to help inform and inspire the final name.
