JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Jacksonville police rolled out 55 body cameras Monday, and both officers and residents say this will bring further protection and transparency.
The new Axon Body 4 cameras replace their in-car systems, with priority given to officers who interact with the public.
Captain Chris Funcke says they have tested the cameras for about a month to ensure that they are comfortable and stable.
“We received nothing but really good feedback from the officers about the cameras,” Funcke said. “They’re excited to have them. It’s just another item that we have at our disposal to gather evidence for criminal cases and also for transparency.”
The cameras make noise when recordings are turned on and off, letting people nearby know when they’re being used.
