AUSTIN, Texas — A nonprofit organization known for providing medical support during protests and rallies is no longer allowed to operate on the University of Texas at Austin campus during events.

The change comes in response to the implementation of Senate Bill 2972, which took effect this week, along with updated university policies.

Since 2020, Street Medics Austin, a volunteer-based group composed of EMTs, nurses and students, have been offering first aid and wellness support to UT students during demonstrations. According to the organization’s president Matthew Blaney, their services have included distributing water and snacks, treating minor injuries and helping reduce the burden on local emergency services.
