SIERRA VISTA, AZ (AZFamily) — Gov. Katie Hobbs on Friday provided an update on the efforts of a task force created earlier this year to combat cartel violence in Arizona.

The governor was in the southern Arizona city of Sierra Vista on Friday to provide statistics on " Operation Desert Guard ," a joint task force created by an executive order she signed in February. The new security plan was designed to crack down on criminal activity, such as illegal drug smuggling and human trafficking, along Arizona’s 370-mile border with Mexico.

Since the operation began just over six months ago, Hobbs says 76,000 fentanyl pills and 400 pounds of meth have been seized, and that law enforcement has made more than 600 arrests, including the apprehension of 10 fugitives. In all, the governor says the
