SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (13 News) - While chances for major rainstorms fizzled out for southern Arizona Friday night, Cochise County was prepared.
This is because the rural areas that make up most of Cochise County provide a unique challenge for the sheriff’s office and Fry Fire District when heavy rain hits.
“The mountains and the roads get flooded out so easily,” said Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels.
He said his office’s search and rescue teams stay ready to help 24/7, but for a threat like Tropical Storm Lorena, he said it’s all hands on deck.
But Dannels does stress the best way to stay safe is to avoid dangerous situations, especially because there are times when they struggle to get to those in need.
