HARTFORD, Conn. — Connecticut's first human case of West Nile virus for 2025 has been reported, according to the state Dept. of Public Health.
The patient is a man in his 40s from Fairfield County. He became ill during the third week of August with WNV, was hospitalized, and has since recovered, DPH said.
Lab tests have confirmed the presence of antibodies to WNV in the patient, officials said.
WNV is a mosquito-borne disease that can be passed to humans. Most people don't develop symptoms, but some people may get sick or severely ill, which could be fatal.
“As we gather with family, friends, and neighbors outdoors for the remainder of this summer and into the fall, protecting yourself from mosquito bites is an important step in reducing the risk of West Nile virus infection,” said DPH
