NORFOLK, Va. — Eight adults, five children and a dog were displaced after a house fire in Norfolk early Saturday morning, according to Norfolk Fire-Rescue.

Crews were called to the 1500 block of Norcova Avenue around 2:17 a.m. and arrived to find flames and smoke coming from the front right corner of a two-story home, officials said. The fire extended from the first floor to the exterior of the second floor.

Firefighters quickly deployed hoses and extinguished the flames on both floors and the outside of the house. The fire was contained to the front corner of the first floor, with some exterior damage to both levels. Officials said the home had smoke detectors, but they did not activate because the fire was concentrated outside.
