A person nearly drowned Friday near 2nd Street in Virginia Beach, officials with the Virginia Beach Lifesaving Service said.
The victim was rescued from the water and taken to the hospital after experiencing respiratory distress caused by water intake.
Officials have not shared the circumstances around the incident.

Swim near lifeguards and stay within 50 yards of shore. Never swim alone.
Avoid swimming near piers or by yourself, as it is unsafe and prohibited.
Check water depth before diving, and keep one hand extended when body surfing to prevent injuries.
Wear Coast Guard-approved life jackets if you can't swim instead of relying on inflatable rafts.
