PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Portsmouth Fire Rescue & Emergency Services responded to a boat fire in the 400 block of Water Street early Saturday morning.
Shortly before 6:30 a.m., crews arrived to find smoke coming from a 50-foot steel-hulled vessel. Firefighters immediately began working to extinguish the fire.
Mutual aid was requested from Norfolk Fire and Rescue for fireboats and from the Chesapeake Fire Department for a foam unit. The United States Coast Guard and the Virginia Port Authority Maritime Incident Response Team are also assisting.
The vessel’s occupants were not on board when crews arrived. However, firefighters rescued one dog from the cabin, which was treated at the scene.
Crews are currently on the scene. Officials have not said what caused the fire.
