ISLE LA MOTTE, Vt. (WCAX) - Fateful news reached a future president on this day in history.
President William McKinley was shot on September 6th, 1901. On that day, Vice President Theodore Roosevelt was attending a dinner at the home of Vermont Lt. Governor Nelson Fisk in Isle La Motte.
He left Vermont, traveling to Buffalo, where he became president when McKinley died eight days later.
