A day after the anniversary of the Apalachee High School shooting last September, Savannah Arts Academy students walked out of class at 500 Washington Ave. and into Tiedemann Park accross the street. The students dropped their pencils and books to protest gun violence in America's schools following last week's shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

"Legislation has died in committee while children die in school," said Zoe Wagner, Savannah Arts senior and president of the school's Students Demand Action chapter. The national nonprofit consists of chapters led by young activists like her that seek "to end gun violence and save lives," according to its website.
