In a week with multiple individuals arrested on unrelated child sex charges, a three-year-old case involving a 48-year-old Sampson man culminated on Labor Day with his arrest.

Luis Eduardo Ruiz-Reyes, 30, of 48 Cypress Lane, Godwin, was jailed Monday under a half million dollar bond and is currently being held in the Sampson Detention Center for that charge as well as on an ICE detainer.

He is charged with two counts statutory rape of a 15-year-old, two counts taking indecent liberties with a child, two counts statutory sex offense with a child under the age of 15, and one count kidnapping, all felonies.

Sampson Sheriff’s Capt. Marcus Smith blamed “an extreme” backlog at the state Crime Lab for the three-year delay in the arrest.
