ERIE, Mich. — Sheila Garcia-Apple scoured the field, looking for apples to make apple pie with her granddaughter, Violet Lopez, 4.

The pair along with Violet’s mother, Alisa Lopez, walked through an apple orchard Saturday, picking as many apples as they could in a tote bag as part of a festival that kicks off the fall season for a local orchard and cider mill.

The trio was one of dozens of apple pickers, many of whom were families and couples, who stopped by Erie Orchard and Cider Mill to select a variety of apples, including Granny Smith, Fuji, and Northern Spy apples, as part of its annual Apple Festival.
