The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning at 3:39 p.m. on Saturday in effect until 4:15 p.m. for the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens as well as Nassau County.

Residents should prepare for wind gusts of up to 60 mph.

"At 3:38 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Ozone Park, or near Crown Heights, moving east at 50 mph," states the weather service. "Expect damage to trees and power lines."

Be aware that the thunderstorm may affect the following locations:

Jamaica and Valley Stream around 3:45 p.m.

Mineola and Westbury around 3:50 p.m.

Levittown and Hicksville around 3:55 p.m.

The weather service adds, "For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud to ground lightning
