CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — The West Virginia Black Heritage Festival officially kicked off Saturday at noon in downtown Clarksburg for its 36th edition. The main stage was situated in the middle of the intersection of Main and Third streets facing west with scores of people enjoying the ceremony.

With temperatures cooler than normal and a very slight drizzle, people were enjoying themselves as they clapped and cheered for the festival king, queen, prince and princess. Each honoree had their biography read aloud and were each crowned by Pastor Franklin Hairston.
