NORMAL ( 25News Now ) - Astronomy lovers, your time has come as Illinois State University is hosting a show combining ancient Mayan culture with mythology.

A showing of the film, “Mayan Archaeoastronomy: Observers of the Universe” brought dozens of people to Illinois State University’s Planetarium on Saturday.

Planetarium Director and astronomer Thomas Willmitch said the show mixes science and mythology to tell a story how the ancient Mayans viewed the universe.

Willmitch added the artwork of the mythological creatures and panthers makes this a “living painting.”

“It combines art, it combines poetry, it looks at architecture, all of that wrapped into one, and you have to remember, the Mayans are still around,” Willmitch said.
