Another batch of mosquitoes in southern Illinois has tested positive for West Nile Virus.

On Friday, the Southern 7 Health Department confirmed a positive test for WNV was collected from a mosquito trap set in Pulaski County.

Earlier this summer, virus-positive mosquitoes were also captured in Massac, Pope and Union counties.

Traps were placed in each of the seven southernmost counties in May, and are tested weekly through mid-October.

No human cases of the virus have been reported in the Southern Seven region this year. Single cases were reported in southern Illinois in Franklin County near Benton, and Wayne County around Mt. Vernon.

Forty-two human cases have been reported across Illinois, including 34 in Chicago and Cook County.
