A passenger was seriously injured in a crash in Old Lyme early Sunday morning.

State police said a 30-year-old woman from Derby was traveling southbound on Four Mile River Road around 2 a.m. when she went off the road, hit a utility pole and ended up in an embankment.

According to troopers, a 23-year-old man from Old Lyme was a passenger in the vehicle and was taken to Middlesex Health Shoreline Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

He was later transported to Yale New Haven Hospital where his injuries are described as serious.

The driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, failure to maintain lane and interfering with an officer.
