RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - An annual ceremony will be held at the Virginia War Memorial to honor all Americans affected by the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

September 11 is officially recognized as Patriot Day, the National Day of Mourning. It honors those who lost their lives or were injured in the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, and the crash near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, twenty-four years ago.

The ceremony will take place outdoors at the Memorial’s Shrine of Memory- Global War on Terrorism and Beyond on Thursday, September 11, at 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. However, attendees are encouraged to arrive by 10:45 a.m.
