RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Many parents can relate to that nerve-racking feeling of their teenager getting behind the wheel for the first time.

A unique, hands-on driving program stopped in Richmond to try to ease some of that stress.

Teenagers gathered at the Richmond Raceway on Sunday afternoon, September 7, for one of a handful of sessions offered over the weekend.

Whether the young drivers are just getting their license or are soon to, they all spend the three hours learning what to do behind the wheel in emergency scenarios.

That includes a drop wheel and panic braking activity.

Sophia Garzlaff said that at first she was a little nervous, but with each lap, her confidence grew.

“Once I got in the car, recovery from getting off the side of the road was kind of easy,” Garzlaff said. “
